1940 Chrysler Windsor convertible

€31,900.00

For sale is a 1940 Chrysler Windsor convertible coupe (odometer 37794).

Bought from a US auction (from Bob Bakewell collection), a rare 1940

Chrysler Windsor Convertible Coupe that Bob Bakewell actually sold for

his employer in 1948 and was able to acquire for his collection some 63

years later. Title VIN 699159. Restoration work that began in 2011 USA

includes rebuilt 6 cylinder engine, new canvas top, upholstery and wide

whites. Spotlight and dual rear bumper guards. Last driven in 2016. The

acquisition of the car would be an upgrade to any collection. The story

Bob selling the car and requiring it made the cover of the Old Cars

Weekly November 3, 2011 edition where Bob was referred to as

Nebraska’s “Chrysler Man.”

The car moved from the US to Portugal, where a frame-off restoration

was performed (frame and body). Then we transported the car to

Estonia, it was basically a & basket case, the body parts were

reassembled. Within two years, finished the car. Registered in Sweden.

Last works have been done: new license plate light wire and socket,

installation of turn signals, headlight adjustment, and exhaust gases to

normal. During the finishing restoration work, we installed a new battery

and a grounding switch under the hood (where the charger can also be

recharge). New chrome: front and rear bumpers, driver side ventilation

window frame, tailgate handle, taillight frames. All new brake cylinders

and pads installed, front king pins and steering bushings. Some

upholstery work + the entire trunk (most upholstery was already done in

the US, good condition). The roof works with vacuum and all new hoses

installed. Starter restored. It is a 6V electrical system, where the positive

is in the body. The original already has an electric wiper motor that

works. New windshield + gasket. The car starts is in good driving

condition. Ideally, the carburetor could also be restored in the future.

New spark plugs and wires. The electrical system is mostly new wires.

We can help find a reliable transport company. The car belongs to the

private collection and making room for a new project.

We trusted a professional car painter in Portugal with the color selection

and he hit the nail on the head. A wonderful color that changes with the

light, somewhere between dark purple and black. Here is a link to a US

auction where one can see the car before restoration and read about its

history https://www.vanderbrinkauctions.com/lot-item/4f-3/
